Current Cricketing Developments

India and the IPL have become so financially large and important in the game. India is also working with Australia and South Africa, and is forming a partnership that is adding to their strength.  The IPL is being played in South Africa. And Pakistan hosted Australia in the United Arab Emirates. All of this is raising doubt that India wishes international cricket to remain at the center of the sport.

Last month the International Cricket Council decided to move Pakistan’s 14 World Cup 2011 matches due to security concerns.  Pakistan’s cricket chief is hastily trying to get his country’s matches back.

The question has been raised as to if umpires should have helmets as part of their dress code?  A hit to the head, no matter if you are participating in the game, or judging it, is not good.  And with the speed of the ball, it is sometimes impossible for the umpire to avoid the ball.

Cricket Namibia (South Africa) has started women’s cricket. The girls will be picked from various schools physical education programs.  A group of 2,000 will be narrowed down to 200, with an Under 15 team being formed.  Currently, South Africa and Zimbabwe are the top women cricket playing nations on the continent. Equipment is being received from the ICC and from UNICEF.
