A classy left handed batsman with stylish drives he is none other than Chris Gayle of West Indies. His marvel with bat in at the T20 World cups nominates him as the top class opener. Although in the presence of opening batsmen like Adam Gilchrist, Graeme Smith and Sanath Jayasuria, Chris Gayle has earned himself as the best performing opening batsman in T20 game of cricket.

Chris Gayle, playing against South Africa on their home ground, made 117 runs of just 57 balls in the very first match of 2007 ICC World T20. Not only that Gayle with the co- support of Devon Smith was able to build up a first wicket partnership of 166 runs and gave West Indies a solid start. However, with the departure of Devon Smith from the crease, Windies batting line thrashed out by Proteas bowling attack and South Africa won the match by 8 wickets.

Since then none of the batsmen has ever made a century in such a great fashion. Chris Gayle is still the undisputed opener with an excellent century in T20 World Cup history.

Most T20 Centuries Scored World Cup Wise

Looking at the historical centuries at the T20 cricket world Cups, the best ever century was scored in 2007 ICC World T20 by Chris Gayle of West Indies. Chris Gayle scored 117 runs of just 57 balls while maintaining an astounding strike rate of 205 against South Africa in an opening match of the very first ICC World T20 played in South Africa. Another player, who scored a century during 2007 ICC World T20, was Srilankan top batsman Mahela Jayawardene. Jayawardene scored a 100 against Zimbabwe at Providence South Africa, ensuing in a strike rate of 156 runs.

2009 ICC World T20, did not witnessed any batsman who could score a century in the tournament.

During 2010 ICC World T20 only one century was recorded and the player was Suresh Raina from India. Suresh scored 101runs of 60 balls against South Africa at Gros Islet, West Indies.

World T20: Nation Wise Best Centuries Scored

Scoring a century in a T20 match is never been an easy task as the game is of 20 overs that is the batsmen face 120 balls in an inning. To notch up a hundred by a single batsman in merely 120 balls is seems unattainable; however, three players have touched the 100 mark in the history of ICC World Cup T20. India’s Suresh Raina scored a century for his team as he scored 101 runs of 60 balls against South Africa in 2010 ICC World T20. Chris Gayle made 117 runs of just 57 balls against South Africa at Johannesburg during 2007 ICC World T20 tournament. Although West Indies lost the match to South Africa, Chris Gayle was declared as player of the match on his pugnacious batting.
