2009 Ashes winner- Australia

After being trashed by the English in the 2005 Ashes series, the Australians have won finally after defeating the English team this time. They gave a complete whitewash when they defeated England 5-0 in the Ashes tour 2006. Before the tour had commenced, Aussies speedster Glen McGrath predicted that the Australians were looking for a complete whitewash to erase the previous season’s bad memories and thus regain the trophy. This was exactly what happened when Flintoff’s men failed to comprehend what they were up against and lost all the test matches.

The previous season had been a glorious one for English cricket when they had been successful in winning the Ashes after a period of many years. The five cricket test matches were played at Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. In fact, more than the result of Ashes 2006 tour, the series will be remembered for the retirement of many great players from the Australian squad. Justin Langer, Glen McGrath, Damien Martyn, and Shane Warne were the greats who bid adieu to cricket after the completion of this series.

The 2006-07 Ashes Cricket Series

ashes-2006Information about 2006-07 Ashes series

The 2006-07 Ashes cricket series was most notable for the return of the trophy back to the Australians, which they had lost in the previous summer. England were handed a complete 5-0 whitewash.  This was a surprise as this was the same team which had fought hard to win the Ashes after a period of 18 years. The 2006 Ashes series was also remembered for the retirement of many Australian modern era legends. The greats who retired included Glen McGrath, Justin Langer, Damien Martyn and finally Shane Warne. This was the last time these legends ever set foot on the cricket field for a professional outing.

Before the series commenced, the Aussie speedster Glen McGrath had predicted a 5-0 whitewash by the Australians as a fitting reply to the previous year’s humiliation at the hands of the English cricket team. The Australian team was able to achieve exactly the same when it defeated the touring team comprehensively at all the venues that included Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. This was the first instance of a 5-0 defeat for any team in the Ashes series ever since 1920-21.
