Australian cricket team began their test career in 1877 against the English cricket team and the West Indians made their test debut quite later than the Aussies (1928) which was the same year when they were granted the test status from the International Cricket Council. Their debut was also against the English cricket team in London. The two teams met across each other on the grounds of Adelaide in 1930.

  • West Indian cricket team is often called as the Windies and the Australians are nick named as the Aussies.
  • GC Grant captained the first match against the Aussies for the West Indian side and WM Woodfull captained for the Aussies.
  • The first encounter between the two sides was at the Adelaide cricket stadium.
  • Umpires for the game were GA Hele and AG Jenkins.

  • Highest rest score by the Australian cricket side was 668 in one innings and as for the windies the highest number of runs scored in an innings was 616.
  • In aggregate Brian Lara (former Windies captain) is the top scorer with 2815 runs followed by IVA Richards (2266runs). Third in the list is DL Hayden with 2233 runs.
  • BC Lara also had the highest number of runs in an innings (277runs) followed by 242 runs of KD Walters.
  • Popular cricket player CA Walsh of the Windies side has been the leading wicket taker in aggregate with 135 wickets followed by 110 wickets of GC McGrath (fast Australian bowler)
  • GD McKenzie took 8 wickets in an innings which up till now are the maximum against the West Indians and for the Windies CEL Ambrose took 7 wickets in one innings.

  • The last match played up till now was in 2009 when the two teams came across each other on the grounds of Perth which was the 3rd match of the series. (December 16th-20th).
  • No apparent world records were made during their encounters however great batting on DL Hayden’s part was seen.

The 11th match of the Prudential World Cup was the first ODI match played between the Australian cricket team and the West Indies cricket team in the year 1975.

  • Ian Chappell was the captain of the great Aussies ( The Australian cricket team) in the first ODI played against the West Indies cricket team where as the famous “Windies” were being captained by CH Lloyd at that time.
  • The two umpires in the first ODI match between these two cricket teams were HD Bird and DJ Constant.
  • On the grounds of Kennington Oval, London, the Aussies and the Windies encountered each other for the first time in this history of ODIs on 14th June 1975. West Indies won by seven wickets.
  • Against the West Indies cricket team, Mark Waugh, Allan Border and Ricky Ponting have been performing outstandingly while on the bowling side, Shane Warne and CJ McDermott, the Australian bowlers have taken the maximum number of wickets against the Windies.

  • Tthe highest ODI individual score has been made by the Australian batsman, Steve Waugh (173) against the West Indies cricket members on the fields of Melbourne in the year 2001.
  • The best bowling figures in the ODIs between Australian and West Indies cricket team is of WW Davis, one of the Windies. He took seven wickets against the Australian players in the ODI played in 1983.
  • Most number of wickets has been taken by an Australian player, CJ McDermott in the ODIs played against the West Indian cricket team.
  • Coming towards the wicket keeping records, IA Healy has the most number of dismissals record against the West Indies cricket team.
  • The last ODI played between the two teams was on 19thfeb 2010 at Melbourne where Australia won by 125 runs.

At Bridgetown, West Indian cricket team played for the first time in the T20 world cup against the Australian cricket team. West Indies beat the Aussies in the first T20 match which was held on 2oth june 2008.
