Kamran Akmal

There have been very few occasions in which the cricketing history has witnessed not two but three brothers from the same family who have played for their country. In recent years, the sir name ‘Akmal’ has been a regular feature of the Pakistan cricket squad with the first name ‘Kamran’ being the most frequent appearing and prominent.

Born in the city of Lahore, Pakistan in 1982, Kamran Akmal of Pakistan cricket team is an explosive right-handed batsman and an average wicket keeper with flashes of brilliance. With a debut against Zimbabwe in 2002, Kamran Akmal has represented Pakistan in a 120 ODIs and has scored a total of 2,503 runs at a moderate average of 27.74. The one thing that the cricketing pundits credit Akmal with is the fact he has a very good conversion rate and it is testified by the fact that from the 12 innings in which he has scored a fifty run score he has gone on to convert into a century 5 times which is nothing less than phenomenal. As a wicket keeper, he has a 122 catches and 20 stumpings to his name. However, although extremely talented, both behind the wicket and as a batsman, Kamran seems to have failed on many occasions and hence has been the reason of frustration not only for the selectors but the fans too.

His world cup stats are nothing to write home about although he played a crucial role in Pakistan’s bid to lift the 2009 T20 World Cup but prior to that his outing in the Caribbean in 2007 Cricket World Cup was nothing short of substandard.

Narrowly escaping the Spot fixing controversy which engulfed three of Pakistan’s most talented players, Kamran Akmal is rejuvenated and enthusiastic at being the main wicket keeper in the 2011 Cricket World Cup for Pakistan. Though fingers have been pointed towards the selection committee at giving him the green signal but a lot of the fans believe that if he applies his talent properly, Pakistan could very well be on their way to playing the final in Mumbai in April this year.
