Australia cricket team will be playing against India cricket team in the 2nd quarter-final of 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup at Ahmadabad, India. Australia had a solid start beating Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Kenya, Canada and the match with Sri Lanka was abandonment due to rain. But they lost to Pakistan and their 34-ubneaten victory streak ended. On the other hand, India easily won its matches against Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, and West Indies but tied with England and lost to South Africa. Following things should be kept in mind about the Quarter final between Australia and Indian cricket teams in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Batting Strength and Weakness:

Australian cricket team has a strong batting line up but has weaknesses when its comes to play spinners in the subcontinent. This was particularly seen in the last group match of Australia against Pakistan where Australian batsmen failed to bat against Pakistan spinners. India cricket team has a different story to tell, they have got world’s finest batting line up. They have good starts in every group match but their middle-order has collapsed many times in this tournament. They have lost their last 5 wickets in 2 matches on just 30 runs.

Bowling Strength and Weakness:

Australia cricket team’s bowling strength is their fast bowlers which comprise of stars like Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Shaun Tait and Shane Watson. Unfortunately, Australians have no striker spinner in their bowling line up. Indian cricket team has an advantage over Australia cricket team in a sense that they have balanced bowling line up in the shape of medium pacers and striker spinners. Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan is the leading wicket taker for India in the 2011 ICC Cricket world cup. Harbhajan Singh alongwith Yuvraj Singh and Piyush Chawla are the key spin bowlers of India who have taken wickets for India at crucial moments.

Conclusion:

Indian cricket team has been successful in both types of situations i.e., defending the target and chasing the target but Australia cricket team has not yet chased any target in this world cup which might create problems for them if they are asked to field first. Both teams are giants of cricket world, so we should expect a thriller match from these teams.

Result: India beat Australia by chasing a reasonable total. India won by 5 wickets.

In the match between West Indies, India after a solid start went on to collapse at the later end and became all out which maybe a worry too.
