1st Semi final Cricket World Cup 1996:

  • The first semi-final of 1996 Cricket World Cup was played on 13th March, 1996. Indian cricket team faced Sri lanka in this first semi final.
  • Sri Lankan cricket team scored 251 runs. PA De Silva scored 66 and RS Mahanama scored 58 runs. India scored 120 runs before the Indian crowd misbehaved so much that Sri lanka won this match by default. This match was played in Calcutta and PA De Silva was declared Man of the Match in the first semi-final of 1996 Cricket World Cup.

2nd Semifinal Cricket World Cup 1996:

  • The second semi-final of 1996 Cricket World Cup was played on 14th March, 1996. West Indies and Australian cricket team played in the semi final of Sixth Cricket World Cup (1996).
  • Australia scored 207 runs. SG Law scored 72 runs. MG Bevan scored 69 runs.
  • S. Chanderpaul scored 80 runs and BC Lara scored 45 for West Indian cricket team. RB Richardson scored 49. West Indies was all out for 202.
  • Shane Warne took 4 wickets and was declared Man of the Match in the second semi-final of the 1996 Cricket World Cup.
  • The Final of 1996 Cricket World Cup was played between Sri lanka and Australia.

Final-Cricket World Cup 1996  

Sri lanka faced Australia in the sixth cricket world cup (1996) final in Lahore, on 17th March, 1996. Here are some of the facts about the final match of 1996 Cricket World Cup:

  • The final match of 1996 Cricket World Cup was played between Sri Lankan cricket team and Australian cricket team.
  • MA Taylor scored 72 and Ricky Ponting of Australian cricket team scored 45 runs. Australia scored 241 runs.
  • PA De Sliva of Sri Lankan cricket team took 3 wickets.
  • PA De Sliva scored 107 and AP Gurusinha scored 65 runs. Arjuna Ranatunga scored 47. Srilankan cricket team scored 245 runs with 22 balls remaining.
  • PA De Silva was declared Man of the Match in the final of 1996 Cricket World Cup.

This was the first world cup victory for Sri Lankan cricket team and third out of 6 world cup for the sub-continent. This world cup cricket once again depicted sub-continent’s dominance over international cricket. 2011 Cricket World Cup is being hosted by Sri Lanka along with India and Bangladesh.
