Australia cricket team will be playing against India cricket team in the 2nd quarter-final of 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup at Ahmadabad, India. Australia had a solid start beating Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Kenya, Canada and the match with Sri Lanka was abandonment due to rain. But they lost to Pakistan and their 34-ubneaten victory streak ended. On the other hand, India easily won its matches against Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands, and West Indies but tied with England and lost to South Africa. Following things should be kept in mind about the Quarter final between Australia and Indian cricket teams in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Batting Strength and Weakness:

Australian cricket team has a strong batting line up but has weaknesses when its comes to play spinners in the subcontinent. This was particularly seen in the last group match of Australia against Pakistan where Australian batsmen failed to bat against Pakistan spinners. India cricket team has a different story to tell, they have got world’s finest batting line up. They have good starts in every group match but their middle-order has collapsed many times in this tournament. They have lost their last 5 wickets in 2 matches on just 30 runs.

Bowling Strength and Weakness:

Australia cricket team’s bowling strength is their fast bowlers which comprise of stars like Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Shaun Tait and Shane Watson. Unfortunately, Australians have no striker spinner in their bowling line up. Indian cricket team has an advantage over Australia cricket team in a sense that they have balanced bowling line up in the shape of medium pacers and striker spinners. Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan is the leading wicket taker for India in the 2011 ICC Cricket world cup. Harbhajan Singh alongwith Yuvraj Singh and Piyush Chawla are the key spin bowlers of India who have taken wickets for India at crucial moments.

Conclusion:

Indian cricket team has been successful in both types of situations i.e., defending the target and chasing the target but Australia cricket team has not yet chased any target in this world cup which might create problems for them if they are asked to field first. Both teams are giants of cricket world, so we should expect a thriller match from these teams.

Pakistan ends Australia’s 34 games undeafeted streak in World Cups

Men in Green of Pakistan cricket team in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup finally brought an end to the 34 match unbeaten victory streak of Australian cricket team since 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup. Along with this, Pakistan cricket team secured the top position in Group A of 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Australian cricket team was bowled out at the score of 176 which is the lowest total of Australia in a World Cup since 1992 Cricket World Cup.  Brett Lee of Australian cricket side took 4 wickets for 28 runs in an effort to claim the win for his team but Abdul Razzaq and Umer Akmal of Pakistan cricket guided the team to an impossible and huge win. Australian batting line up had players like Johnson and Michael Clarke but Pakistani cricket team captain Shahid Afridi tactfully used the blend of his bowling options where he held back Razzaq till the 35th over. After this over, Afridi used Abdul Razzaq who took the crucial wickets of Michael Hussey and Michael Clarke. Some of the very interesting facts of match between Pakistan and Australian cricket teams in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup are:

1)      The 34-match winning World Cup streak of Australian cricket team came to an end. The period of this winning streak started on May 27, 1999 where Australia won 32 matches. One match had no-result while one was tied.

2)      The scoring pattern of both Australian and Pakistani cricket teams were distinct by a huge gap in this match:

a.       Australia took 13 twos, 89 singles and stuck 10 fours

b.      Pakistan cricket team took 8 twos, 59 singles and struck 21 fours.

Now Pakistan cricket team will play West Indies cricket team in the Quarter final of 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Famous cricket player of Australia: Brett Lee

Brett Lee is one of the fastest bowlers of modern cricket. His pace combined with the ability to swing the bowl both ways makes him a perfect opening bowler in one day cricket today. During the time when Aussie bowling attack was all about accuracy Lee came into the Australian cricket team with genuine speed. His partnership with McGrath in the later years was nothing short of a nightmare for batsmen around the globe.

He has been in the one day international squad for more than ten years with 335 wickets so far. He was an integral part of the 2003 Cricket World Cup winning Australian team. He was at his best during the super eight match against the arch rivals New Zealand cricket team. The Aussie could only manage a modest 208 after their allotted 50 overs and all eyes were on Kiwis for an easy victory but Lee had other ideas. An inspired bowling change from Ponting saw Lee ripping through the Black Caps late order in matter of minutes. He finished the match with excellent figures of 5 for 42 in 9 overs. In the semi final against Sri Lanka he took three early wickets ensuring his team’s progress in the finals. His final tally of the tournament was an impressive 22 wickets. Lee was unfortunate to miss the 2007 Cricket World Cup due to injury.

This will be his last chance to shine again on the biggest stage of the world cricket. Sub continent pitches might not be the ideal tracks to bowl at but when you have the speed to destroy the opposition you don’t really pay attention to such minor details.

One Day International Cricket is thrilling and interesting. With the world cup 2011 just round the corner, some interesting facts and figures have grabbed my attention. While going through the list of bowlers and batsmen who have been the most successful in their fields in ODI cricket, I started noting the players who are amongst the chart toppers, and are playing in the 10th world cup cricket 2011. Looking at the figures and record lists closely, one can easily predict the probable finalists of ICC cricket World Cup 2011.

Most wickets in cricket career-Bowling Records ODIMuralitharan has taken 519 wickets for Sri lanka so far. He is the top ranked bowler in the world as far as career wicket taking record is concerned. Waseem Akram, Waqar Younis, Chaminda Vaas, Shaun Pollock, Glenn McGrath and Anil Kumble are next in line but none of these brilliant bowlers is playing now. The 8th highest wicket taker in ODI, Brett Lee from Australia has taken 335 wickets so far. Next in line are Sanath Jayasuriya, Juvagal Srinath and Shane Warne all three of them retired now. The 12th most successful bowler in ODI cricket is Shahid Afridi, the Pakistani captain in cricket world cup 2011. Saqlain Mustaq and Agarkar are next in line who are retired now, while the 15th highest wicket taker in ODI cricket is Daniel Vettori, representing New Zealand. After A Donald and Ntini from South Africa, we have Abdul Razzaq from Pakistan cricket team as most successful bowler ever. He is the 18th highest wicket taker in ODI in the world. Abdul Razzaq has taken 262 wickets. Following him closely is the 19th highest wicket taker in ODI cricket, J Kallis from South Africa. Kallis has taken 259 wickets so far.  Great all rounder and the world cup winning captain Kapil Dev is the 20th most successful bowler in ODI to date.

Most runs in cricket career-Batting Records ODI: Sachin Tendulkar tops the chart with 17629 runs so far. He is very much there in the Indian squad. Jayasuriya is second on this list of highest run scorers in Cricket ODI but he is not playing in this world cup. Ricky Ponting is on the list with 13082 runs in his career so far, making him the third highest run scorer in ODI cricket history ever. Inzimam ul Haq and Saurav Ganguly are next in line, both retired from cricket now. J Kallis from South Africa has scored 11002 runs so far and he is the 6th highest run scorer in ODI cricket. Rahul Dravid, Brain Lara, Mohammad Yousuf, Adam Gilchrist, Muhammad Azharuddin, and Aravinda De silva are next in line. D Jayawardene is 13th on the list of highest run scorers in the ODI cricket with 9119 runs on the board. Saeed Anwer from Pakistan is 14th on the list of highest run scorer in career in the ODI cricket. On 15th number we have Kumar Sangakkara of Sri lanka with 8699 runs.  S Chanderpaul from West Indies is 16th on the list with 8664 runs. Desmond Haynes, Atapattu, Mark Waugh and H Gibbs are the next in line constituting the top 20 run scorers in the ODI cricket.

Now looking at the players who are amongst the top 20 bowlers or batsmen ever in the cricket ODI history, Sri lanka has the most experienced highly skilled batsmen and bowler. 3 best ever cricketers (Jayawardene, Sangakkara and Muralitharan) amongst the top few are in this list. Sri lanka thus stands a great chance this time around. Second in line is Australia, with one all time great batsman and one all time great bowler in the squad (Ponting and Lee). Pakistan can be considered as the third best team to be there in the final match. The Pakistani squad includes two all time best bowlers (Afridi and Razzaq).  South Africa is next in line with J Kallis being the only player appearing in both the lists. Kallis is undoubtedly one of the best all rounder ODI cricket has ever produced. Sachin Tendulkar brings hope to India. Looking at the current form of Indian cricket team, they stand a good chance. West Indies and New Zealand have one great player each (Chander Paul and Daniel Vettori) but lack of consistency in the team’s recent performance shows these teams have lesser chances to reach the finals. So the stats show that it will be any two amongst Sri lanka, Pakistan, Australia and India who will be playing the Cricket world cup 2011 final on 2nd of April 2011 in Mumbai, India.
