  • Pretty impressive with the ball, he took 96 wickets of his 4392 balls with 4/6 being his best in an innings.
  • Virendar Sehwag has played in 2 ICC world cups and is there in place for the 3rd upcoming one. His quick batting makes him eligible to be among the opening pair of the Indian team. His performance in the 2003 cricket world cup had been very consistent as he played numerous match winning knocks which eventually led the team to the finals.
  • Twice, Sehwag has taken the man of the series award and twenty times has he been the man of the match.
  • His batting was impressive enough for the selectors to replace him with Sourav Ganguly and now is there at his spot since ages along with S.R Tendulkar.
  • In any match if Sehwag scores a fifty or a hundred, India is certain to win, provided the rest of the batting order has performed above average, which is why he is also termed as the match winner.

Highlights of player records:

  • Sehwag set the record for being the only Indian to score a triple century in test cricket. He is also the only player to score fastest triple century in test cricket
  • Sehwag has a record for being one of the four batsmen to surpass 300 test wickets and only player to score two triple centuries and one five wickets haul.

Records are meant to be broken and Virendar Sehwag did in great fashion by hitting the highest ODI score of 219 runs against West Indies at Indore, India. Virendar Sehwag broke the Highest ODI runs record of Sachin Tendulker who registered 200 runs against South Africa on February 24, 2011. Only two men did it in the history of ODI cricket and both are from India. Sehwag has considered his win as the biggest thing in life as he broke the record of his role model Sahcin Tendulker.

Virender Sehwag has a well built career with an inexorable pursuit, and a wunderkind, for hitting the boundaries all over. His specialty lies in his foot work, although it minimal but the intent to strike the ball is optimum. Not only ODIs, he has been the fastest runs scorer in the history for test cricket. As an opener, always a danger man for all kind of bowling attacks.

Gautam Gambhir

  • Gautam ghambhir is among the finest and complete batsman of the Indian cricket team who made his test debut in 2004 against Australia and his ODI debut in 2003 against Bangladesh cricket team.
  • Gambhir like many other renowned batsmen started off his cricket career domestically and is now counted in the Indian team’s opening batsmen slot because of his startling and outstanding performance on the field.
  • Up to date, Gautam Ghambhir has scored 5238 runs in 147 ODI’s. With 11 centuries and 34 fifties, he has proven to be one of the most talented and insatiable batsman of the present cricket era. As per Sehwag, Gambhir is the finest opener after Sunil Gavasker on Indian side.
  • However, Gambhir because of his below the expectation level batting in the home series matches, was dropped from the test team and was also not chosen for the ICC world cup of 2007.
  • Ghambhir did an awe-inspiring job in the one day internationals played in the year 2007 (India’s tour to Bangladesh and Ireland).
  • Playing marvelously in 2007 world ICC twenty 20 and beating Pakistan cricket team in the final, Ghambhir was the top Indian batsmen who scored the highest number of runs. 227 runs were scored by him and he also did very well in the final match reflecting his true talent of the game.  (75 runs on 54 balls)
  • In the years ahead of 2007, more passionate performances by Gambhir were to be seen especially in the test series and his consistency in his batting level remained above the anticipated level.
  • He will never be forgotten for his match winning knock of 97 runs in 2011 ICC World Cup

As India has been experimenting tremendously with new players, it is important how they shape their squad for 2015 ICC Championship. With already an elaborate batting line up, it will be difficult for India to opt for best players. Gambhir however is irreplaceable in the team due to his consistent performance as an opener for team.

Yousuf PathanPlayer record:

  • Yusuf Pathan is a strong and aggressive batsman of the Indian cricket team with more than average off break skills who joined the international cricket team in 2008. He is a brother of Irfan Pathan who is a bowler of Indian team.
  • He became a highlight for Indian side when he helped his team chase 316 with his blistering century against New Zealand in an ODI.
  • His extra ordinary quick batting has brought him to the international squad. (100 of 37 balls in the IPL).  He hasn’t played in a test match as yet.
  • However Yusuf Pathan has played 57 One Day matches and has scored 810 runs at a strike rate of 113.6. His total runs consist of 2 centuries and 3 half with 123* being his highest in an innings.
  • As mentioned he has been averagely fair with the ball by taking 33 wickets (1490 balls) with 3/49 being his best figures.
  • Yusuf Pathan was dropped off from the Indian cricket team for a small period for his poor performance but he regained his place by showing his brilliant skills in domestic cricket.
  • Yusuf Pathan is said to be the back bone of the middle order, and he comes into play when the Indian side has lost all its top order players. And his aggressive batting comes in very handy when there is either a huge target to chase or to put up.

Although Indian cricket is fully equipped with some outstanding batsmen but Yusuf definitely has an edge because of his hard hitting at crucial times. His bowling side is also an advantage for team as he can come handy in situations where no other bowler is bringing results. As for ICC 2015 Championship, not much has been said about his inclusion in the team. Yusuf Pathan is quite busy with his IPL career at the moment and his skills could be of value in world cup.

Currently, Harbhajan Singh is having difficulty in his performance and he has been dropped from many series especially in 2013 and 2014. However he is expected to make a comeback and there are no chances of him retiring from cricket anymore. India still has faith in him. We hope he delivers.
