Cricket World Cup 2003-Cricket history

Africa remained fortunate to host the eight Cricket World Cup 2003 (ICC Cricket World Cup 2003) as the tournament was played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya from February 9, 2003 to March 24, 2003. Fourteen teams participated which include Australia, India, Zimbabwe, England, Pakistan, Netherlands, Namibia from Pool A and Srilanka, Kenya, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, Canada and Bangladesh from Pool B. The tournament followed the format of Super-Six in order to qualify for the semi finals and then final.

Australia dazzled throughout the tournament and won the final by convincing 125 runs, snatching the hopes of India to lift the trophy back home. The final between india and Australia was played in Johannesburg, South Africa’s Wanderers Stadium. Although India won the toss, the wrong decision to bat second by Skipper Saurav Ganguly left India in troubled waters. Australia. Cricket World Cup 1983 (Prudential Cup 1983) was the third consecutive for England as a host where India won laurels by clutching the first World Cup trophy to the Sub Continent. India annihilated the dream of West Indies of winning the cup third time in a row. Kapel Dev’s  India beat West Indies at Lords, England by 43 runs where India scored 184 all out in 54.5 overs, Windies in the chase were all down on 140 in 52 overs. Superb bowling skills were delivered by the Indian bowlers smashed the world class batting of West Indies, where Mohinder Amarnath was awarded as ‘Man of the Match.’ There was no ‘Man of the Series’ in 1983 world cup.
