Australian cricket team played their first test match in the 77th year of the 18th century and was against the English squad. Pakistan cricket team however began its test cricketing career really late and made its debut in October 1952. The two teams played their first match in 1956 and Australia won the series by 1-0.

In june of 1975, Australian cricket team for the first time encountered Pakistani cricket team on the grounds of Headingley. It was a 60-over match.

  • WE Alley and TW Spencer were the umpires of the first ever ODI played between the Australian players and the Pakistani players.
  • On the fields of Headingley, Leeds, the first ODI happened between these two cricket teams.
  • The Pakistani cricket team, also famously known as the “Unpredictable” was being captained by Asif Iqbal in the First ODI against the Aussies where as IM Chappell was captaining the Australian cricket team at that time.

Australia and Pakistan both started off with the icc world t20 cup in the year 2007, the year in which the icc world twenty20 was inaugurated. The two teams met for the first time in the first icc twenty20 cup in the 18th match of the tournament.

  • Shoaib Malik was the caption of the Pakistani Cricket team in the First T20 match played against Australian cricket team which was being captained by Ricky Ponting.

Popular cricket players of West Indian cricket team: Sir Garfield St Aubrun Sobers

Garfield, more commonly known to us as Gary, is an ex-cricketer of the West Indian cricket team. He captained his team and was extensively referred to as the greatest all-rounder and exercised immense expertise in batting, bowling and fielding.

In 1975, Gary was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II owing to his outstanding contribution and services to cricket on the whole. He was a genius who always performed with excellence and perfection. He broke the world record for the highest Test score of 364 at 21. Gary as a player was a remarkable fielder, left-arm bowler, known wrist spinning and played at a fast-medium pace. He was the first player to have hit a score of 6 sixes within an over in a first-class match. He was only 16 when he performed his first-class debut and the next year made his first appearance in a Test series.

Gary started off as a bowler but over a span of four years, hit a Test record as an individual batsman with his dominating score of 365 against Pakistan. When it comes to Gary’s accomplishments, the awards and honors he received are numerous amongst which stands his fantastic innings against Australia in 1971 wherein he scored 254 for the Rest of the World, his successive sixes and that in 1975, he was knighted for his productive services to cricket as a game.

Gary was and always will be recognized for his immense services contributed to the West Indies cricket team at the team and for his records and achievements!

Popular cricket players of West Indian cricket team: Roger Andrew Harper

Roger Andrew Harper is an ex-cricketer of the West Indian cricket team who later took up the responsibility of a coach. Harper had quite an extensive International career which lasted 13 years. He played Test and ODI cricket for his team and was identified as a remarkable fielder of his time.

His career highlights consist of his premier test average of 28.06 that is above that of Gibbs and thus gives him the leverage of hitting the chief average amongst all West Indies team spinners with a feat of a minimum of 25 Test wickets, and the 1996 Cricket World Cup when he was in full control of the match with a 4/47. A right-handed batsman and bowling off-breaks with his right arm, Harper was known as an all rounder as well.

Throughout his playing career, Harper recorded a total of 535 runs in 25 Tests and won 46 wickets; he also played 200 first-class matches and upon retirement, he took up the position of a coach for the West Indies cricket team from 2000-2003. In 2006, he was offered and subsequently appointed to take over the Kenyan National Team: a position he stepped down from in September 2007.

Famous cricket player of West Indian cricket team: Jimmy Adams

Jimmy Adams is known to be a former West Indian player and captain. A consistent left-handed batsman while a contributive left-arm spin bowler as well as a competent fielder specifically for his gully position, Adams is also recognized for his occasional wicket-keeping services to the team during his career.

In the season of 1984-85, he was taken on board for the Jamaican team and thereby, had an encouraging start to his first-class playing career. However, he was only able to pave his way into the West Indian Test team in the season of 1991-92 wherein he made his debut in Barbados by playing against South Africa. Adams hit a score of 1,132 runs with a batting average nearing 87 in the opening 12 matches. He averaged 61.34 in the first half of his Test career with a 25.58 average in the second half: the gap is recognized as the most extensive in the history of Test cricket. Adams started endeavoring to enter the International level cricket during the mid 90s.

Owing to his endless struggle and performance, Adams won the honor of captaincy of the West Indian cricket team in 2000. Even though this control did not last for long, he went on with his playing career for some more years during which he captained the South African Provincial team Free State and appeared as a guest for Lashings World XI in England.

Adams was part of his cricket arena for a good 20 years and announced his retirement in 2004. He exited the playing arcade with a Test batting average of 41.26 bagging a highest score of 208 not out when he played against NZ in 1995. Today, he is often seen appearing as a cricket commentator for Sky Sports, UK.

Greatest cricket player of West Indies cricket team: Ian Bishop

Ian Bishop, a former West Indian cricket, is a face that represented the West Indian cricket team from 1989 to 1998. Ian Bishop of West Indies was a dynamic fast bowler whose expertise rested with the out swing style. Being a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast bowler, Bishop acquired a record of 100 Test wickets with only 21 Test matches. He was never able to emerge as a strong cricketer player due to serious yet occasional injuries.

It was first in 1991 when he disappeared from the stage due to ruthless back injuries but once recovered strongly, he adjusted himself back to his bowling style and returned back to cricket in 1992 to exhibit his potency by playing against Perth. One year later, he again got struck with serious injuries and thereby had to withdraw again until the mid of 1995. Bishop played his last test in March 1998 against English cricket team after which he was not able to give a boost to his once-what-was-a promising career.

The England tests and the ODI series between the WI and Indian cricket team, Bishop appeared as a commentator for Cricket on Five reflecting on the highlights of the tournament. Today, he goes round the world as a cricket commentator.
