Sri Lanka got the much wanted win!

Sri Lanka defeats Zimbabwe

After losing to Kiwis in a thrilling and exciting match, Sri Lanka was in doldrums about its securing a position in Super Eights. But they ended the insecurity by playing against Zimbabwe in a composed and thrashing way. Mahela Jayewardene played a sensational innings by scoring a century off 64 balls, which was more than enough to bring the Sri Lankan team in a momentum after losing to Kiwis. After this century, Mahela became the fourth player to score a 100 in 20Twenty cricket. Due to his magnificent play, Sri Lanka was able to set a target of 173-3 to defend against the Zimbabwe team.
When Zimbabwe took charge of the crease, they were interrupted by rain shower that led to the Duckworth Lewis implementation. It reduced the score to 44 to be achieved in five overs. But the Zimbabwe batting line completely failed as they could not counter the Sri Lankan bowling attack, thus giving Sri Lankans a comprehensive win by 14 runs.
So Sri Lanka is in secure position now. Fingers crossed for more matches to bring in the thrill and give unexpected results.

A thrilling victory claimed by Kiwis against Sri Lanka

New Zealand vs. Sri Lanka, 2010

Finally the moment came and Twenty20 World Cup 2010 started with a thrilling and exciting match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka. To be honest, both teams were favorites as they share the same professional level when it comes to performance. The match was played in Providence stadium, Guyana where Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a slow turning pitch but with the patient innings of Mahela Jayawardane, scoring a half century, Sri Lanka was able to put up a reasonable target of 136 runs to defend. New Zealand started off rather struggling as Brandon McCullum was dismissed in the first over of their innings. After him, Jesse Ryder along with Martin managed to get a grip of the game but wickets kept on falling till the match went into the last overs of breathless thrill when the balls reduced and runs to chase for increased. In the last over, New Zealand had ten runs to win the match off 6 balls. The tension increased but the Kiwi players managed to get hold of their nerves pretty nicely. The last over was given to Malinga, who is considered to be the lethal  bowler but unfortunately he could not create his magic and Kiwis won the match by hitting a six with two balls remaining.

From Sri Lankan batting line, Jayawardane scored 81 runs while from the New Zealand side, JD Ryder scored 42 runs. Man of the match award was given to NL McCullum who took 1 wicket in 3 over by giving 17 runs. Both teams did a great effort and entertained the audiences by giving them a chilling game as was expected!

SriLankan Cricket TeamProfile for Sri Lankan team
Sri Lankan cricket team is a strong cricket team who can put up a fight to win 2011 cricket World Cup. The strength of Sri Lankan cricket team is their batting which is full of batsmen like Tilakratne Dilshan, Kumara Sangakkara and Mahela Jayewardene who are considered to be some of the greatest batsmen of the cricket history. The bowling department is led by a legend off spinner Muthaya Muralitharan who has taken highest wickets in the test cricket history and he has the support of current world’s second ranked bowler Nuwan Kulasekara. They have the vast experience of Sanath Jayasuriya and leadership of Kumara Sangakkara is very effective. They have the bowler like Ajantha Mendis who has recorded fastest 50 wickets in one day internationals.
In spite of having such a good talent, Sri Lanka has failed to achieve results in recent times because of inconsistency of their top players. In recent series against India, Sri Lanka managed to win only one twenty-20 match and single one day international match.
But, Sri Lanka has the record of reaching in the World Cup final of 2007 cricket World Cup and winning the 1996 World Cup behind them. Apart from this, they have the advantage of playing on the home surface in 2011 World Cup. Due to all this factors, they can throw challenges to any team and can win cricket World Cup 2011.
