One Day International Cricket is thrilling and interesting. With the world cup 2011 just round the corner, some interesting facts and figures have grabbed my attention. While going through the list of bowlers and batsmen who have been the most successful in their fields in ODI cricket, I started noting the players who are amongst the chart toppers, and are playing in the 10th world cup cricket 2011. Looking at the figures and record lists closely, one can easily predict the probable finalists of ICC cricket World Cup 2011.

Most wickets in cricket career-Bowling Records ODI: Muralitharan has taken 519 wickets for Sri lanka so far. He is the top ranked bowler in the world as far as career wicket taking record is concerned. Waseem Akram, Waqar Younis, Chaminda Vaas, Shaun Pollock, Glenn McGrath and Anil Kumble are next in line but none of these brilliant bowlers is playing now. The 8th highest wicket taker in ODI, Brett Lee from Australia has taken 335 wickets so far. Next in line are Sanath Jayasuriya, Juvagal Srinath and Shane Warne all three of them retired now. The 12th most successful bowler in ODI cricket is Shahid Afridi, the Pakistani captain in cricket world cup 2011. Saqlain Mustaq and Agarkar are next in line who are retired now, while the 15th highest wicket taker in ODI cricket is Daniel Vettori, representing New Zealand. After A Donald and Ntini from South Africa, we have Abdul Razzaq from Pakistan cricket team as most successful bowler ever. He is the 18th highest wicket taker in ODI in the world. Abdul Razzaq has taken 262 wickets. Following him closely is the 19th highest wicket taker in ODI cricket, J Kallis from South Africa. Kallis has taken 259 wickets so far.  Great all rounder and the world cup winning captain Kapil Dev is the 20th most successful bowler in ODI to date.

Most runs in cricket career-Batting Records ODI: Sachin Tendulkar tops the chart with 17629 runs so far. He is very much there in the Indian squad. Jayasuriya is second on this list of highest run scorers in Cricket ODI but he is not playing in this world cup. Ricky Ponting is on the list with 13082 runs in his career so far, making him the third highest run scorer in ODI cricket history ever. Inzimam ul Haq and Saurav Ganguly are next in line, both retired from cricket now. J Kallis from South Africa has scored 11002 runs so far and he is the 6th highest run scorer in ODI cricket. Rahul Dravid, Brain Lara, Mohammad Yousuf, Adam Gilchrist, Muhammad Azharuddin, and Aravinda De silva are next in line. D Jayawardene is 13th on the list of highest run scorers in the ODI cricket with 9119 runs on the board. Saeed Anwer from Pakistan is 14th on the list of highest run scorer in career in the ODI cricket. On 15th number we have Kumar Sangakkara of Sri lanka with 8699 runs.  S Chanderpaul from West Indies is 16th on the list with 8664 runs. Desmond Haynes, Atapattu, Mark Waugh and H Gibbs are the next in line constituting the top 20 run scorers in the ODI cricket.

Now looking at the players who are amongst the top 20 bowlers or batsmen ever in the cricket ODI history, Sri lanka has the most experienced highly skilled batsmen and bowler. 3 best ever cricketers (Jayawardene, Sangakkara and Muralitharan) amongst the top few are in this list. Sri lanka thus stands a great chance this time around. Second in line is Australia, with one all time great batsman and one all time great bowler in the squad (Ponting and Lee). Pakistan can be considered as the third best team to be there in the final match. The Pakistani squad includes two all time best bowlers (Afridi and Razzaq).  South Africa is next in line with J Kallis being the only player appearing in both the lists. Kallis is undoubtedly one of the best all rounder ODI cricket has ever produced. Sachin Tendulkar brings hope to India. Looking at the current form of Indian cricket team, they stand a good chance. West Indies and New Zealand have one great player each (Chander Paul and Daniel Vettori) but lack of consistency in the team’s recent performance shows these teams have lesser chances to reach the finals. So the stats show that it will be any two amongst Sri lanka, Pakistan, Australia and India who will be playing the Cricket world cup 2011 final on 2nd of April 2011 in Mumbai, India.

When Sachin Tendulkar made his debut in test cricket he was the third youngest player to ever enter the game. Since his debut, there have only been two players that were younger. He joined the most players of the series awards in test. His talent was amazing, and he only improved with age. Highest Runs Scorer in Test Cricket

He comes, he plays, and he clutches all the records in his bag. He is the little master Sachin Tendulker whose name is a trademark for excellence in batting. Not only he holds the highest runs record in ODIs but also he is the undisputed Emperor of batsmen in Test Cricket. In his 290 test innings to date he has scored 14692 runs with an exceptional average of 56.94. Though he got out 14 times without any scoring, his 51 centuries and 59 centuries have played the key role in achieving his highest runs target.

Next in the queue is the Aussies’ skipper Ricky Ponting with his 12363 runs. He has a lot more potential to cross Sachin Tendulker in the near future, however; Sachin too has a long way to go. Let’s see who keeps the crown of highest runs scorer in Test Cricket in the forthcoming years.

Highest Run Scorers in ODI Cricket

One of the greatest moments of pride and esteem is when you put a badge of being a record maker in any field of concern.  Once looking at the cricket records, there are a large number of badges on the jacket of one man, the Indian cricket maestro Sachin Tendulker. He is the only one cricketer, who stands shoulder to shoulder to Sir Donald Bradman in terms of his dexterity and elegance towards the game of cricket. Sachin Tendulker holds almost all the batting records whether it’s from Test Cricket or One day Internationals. The little master holds the highest runs scorer record of mammoth 17,598 runs in ODIs at a stupendous batting average of 45.15 where the strike rate is 86.26. He has made this record with the help of 46 centuries and 93 half centuries.  He is far too ahead in this record as the second highest score is of 13,428 runs by Srilankan batting whiz Sanath Jayasuriya. There is a lot more cricket left for Sachin and we might see him touching the 20,000 runs in ODIs.

Highest Run Scorers in T20 Cricket

With the advent of T20 cricket the face of the game has changed a lot. Fast pitches, hefty scoring and action packed bowling in just 20 overs have brought a revolution in the game of Cricket. In test cricket, partnership is the basic rule for victory; this fact is  especially true about Indian batsmen. If we look at the partnership records in test cricket, one thing is clear which is that most of them are set by Indian batsman. India has produced many great test cricketers who are famous for their partnership building capabilities. For example, two of the best are Sachin Tendulkar and Dravid. Best Partnership for India in ODI Cricket

Many of India’s greatest victories in One Days Cricket have been achieved  because of the awesome partnerships of SACHIN, DRAVID and SEHWAG. These three players have an amazing understanding of the sport and always build healthy partnerships. If some team fails to build partnerships then it’s chances of victory are  low. Bangladesh has good players who have good techniques and on their day can hit any bowler, but their problem  is that they don’t build partnerships. Most of the time their team relies on individual performances.

The importance of partnerships can’t be neglected in any format of the game whether it is test, one day or twenty20. India became the first twenty20 champion because of the partnerships that they built.  By contrast, Pakistan lost that final from India because no Pakistani player tried to build a partnership and at the end there were no wickets left to change the match result. The partnership builder for India is G Gambhir  who rotates the strike and hits boundaries occasionally. Here is the list of the best partnerships in twenty20 for India.
