Stunning Maiden T20I Century by Tilakaratne Dilshan

With chances of rain later in the night, Australia cricket team’s Captain Cameroon White decided to bowl first after winning the toss of the first T20 International match of the tour in Sri Lanka.  Sri Lanka had a reasonable start until they lost their veteran batsman Mahela Jayewardene in the 3rd over. Taking the opportunity Sri Lankan skipper Tilakaratne Dilshan charged on Australian bowlers heavily. Thus, making a stunning maiden T20I century in just 55 balls. He ended scoring 104* runs from just 57 balls with the help of 12x4s and 5x6s. The dashing innings by Dilshan enabled Sri Lanka cricket team to put a defendable score of 199 runs to win for Australia.

 

One day international cricket records: Bangladesh vs Australian cricket team

The Australian cricket team and the Bangladeshi cricket team stepped into the ODI against each other for the first time on the fields of Sharjah on 30th April 1990.

  • The Bangladesh cricket team was being captained by Gazi Ashraf and the Australian cricket team was being captained by AR Border in the first ever ODI between the two teams.
  • RG Gupta and Khizar Hayat were the two umpires of the first ODI match played between the Bengali tigers and the Aussies.

  • Australia won the first ODI played against Bangladesh in 1990 by seven wickets.
  • Up till today, only 19 ODI matches have been played between the Australian cricket team and the Bangladesh cricket team. Without much surprise 18 matches have been won by the Aussies and just one by the Bengali tigers so far.
  • The highest team score has been scored by Australia against the Bangladeshi players on the grounds of Dhaka in year 2011. 361 runs on the cost of 8 wickets.
  • The individual highest score in the ODIs between the Australian cricket team and Bangladeshi cricket team has been made by an Aussie player, SR Watson. He scored 185 on 11th April 2011 on the fields of Dhaka.
  • The best bowling figures in the ODIs between Australian and Bangladesh cricket team is of A Symonds, one of the Aussies. Most number of wickets has also been taken by an Australian player, GB Hogg.
  • Coming towards the wicket keeping records, AC Gilchrist has the most number of dismissals record against the Bengali tigers.
  • The last ODI played between the two teams was on 13th April 2011 at Dhaka where Australia won by 66 runs.

 

One day international cricket records: Australian cricket team vs English cricket team

Australia faced the England cricket team for the first time in the One Day Internationals in the year 1971 on 5th January on the grounds of Melbourne. Balls per over were 8 at that time and total number of overs were 50.

  • R Illingworth was the captain of the England cricket team in the first ODI played against the Aussies where as the Aussies were being captained by WM Lawry in that match.
  • TF Brooks and LP Rowan were the umpires of the first ODI match played between the Australian cricket team and the England cricket team.
  • On the grounds of Melbourne in Australia, these two cricket teams encountered each other for the first time in an ODI match.
  • From the Aussies, Ricky Ponting, Allan Border, Adam Gilchrist and Michael Clarke have been performing splendidly on the batting side making highest number of runs against the England cricket team up to date. On the bowling side, B Lee and GD McGarth have taken the most number of wickets.
  • Graham Gooch and Andrew Strauss, the England cricket team batsmen have performed effectively through out against the Aussies in the ODIs. From the bowling side IT Bothem, D Gough and JM Anderson have been seen to bowl really well.
  • Australia won the first ODI played against England in 1971 by five wickets.
  • Up till today, 113 ODI matches have been played between the Australian cricket team and the England cricket team. Out of 113, 67 has been won by the Aussies and 42 by the England cricket team. So far, only two ODIs have been tied between the two teams.
  • The highest ODI team score has been scored by Australia against the England cricket team on the grounds of Sydney in year 2011.334 runs on the cost of 8 wickets in 49.2 overs.
  • However, the highest ODI individual score has been made by the England batsman, RA Smith (167) against the Australian team members on the fields of Birmingham in the year 1993.
  • The best bowling figures in the ODIs between Australian and England cricket team is of AJ Bichel, one of the Aussies. He took seven wickets against the England players in the ODI Played in 2003.

One day international cricket records: Australian cricket team vs Sri Lankan cricket team

The Australian cricket team and the Sri Lankan cricket team came face to face for the first time in a One Day international in the year 1975 on the grounds of Oval. It was a 60 overs match.

  • The Aussies were being captained by the famous Ian Chappell in the first ODI played against the Lions (Sri Lankan players). The Lions were being lead by PB Tennekoon in that first match.
  • WL Budd and AE Fagg were the two umpires in the first ever ODI played between the Australian players and the Sri Lankan players.
  • The first ODI between these two cricket teams was played on the grounds of Oval in London. Australia was the victorious team which beat the Lankans by 52 runs.
  • Famous cricket players Ricky Pontng, Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Glenn McGarth and GB Hogg have been performing spectacularly against the Lions in the ODIs. From the Sri Lankan cricket team some of the greatest Sri Lankan cricket players like , PA de Silva, Kumara Sangakara, Muttiah Murailitharan and WPUJC are the eminent players who have been showing outstanding performance in ODI cricket against the Aussies.
  • Up till today, 72ODIs have been played between these two cricket teams out of which 47 matches have been won by the Aussies and the rest by the Lions.
  • The highest ODI total record has been made by the Australian players against the Sri Lankan cricket team which was a score of 368 in 2006 at the cost of five wickets. This ODI was played on the grounds of Sydney.
  • The individual highest score in the ODIs between the Australian cricket team and Pakistani cricket team has been made by an Aussie player, AC Gilchrist. He scored 154 on 7th Feb 1999 on the fields of Melbourne.
  • M Muriltharan, the famous Sri Lankan player has the record of holding most number of wickets against the Aussies in the ODIs; however an Australian player, AIC Dodemaide has the best bowling figures against the Lions team in the ODIs.
  • Coming towards the wicket keeping records, AC Gilchrist has the most number of dismissals (42) record against the Sri Lankan cricket team.
  • Up to date, the last ODI played between these two cricket teams was at Colombo on 5thMarch 2011.

 

One day international cricket records: Indian cricket team vs Australian cricket team

The Australian and the Indian cricket team for the first time come across each other in the ODI in the year 1980 in the Benson and Hedges World Series Cup which took place in Australia.

  • Popular Australian cricket player Gregory Chappell was the captain of the Australian cricket team where as the Men in Blue i.e. the Indian cricket team was being captained by Sunil Gavaskar during the first ODI played between he two teams.
  • MG O’ Connell and RV White head were the two umpires in the first ODI Match played between the Aussies and the Men in Blue.
  • On the fields of Melbourne, Australian cricket team stepped into their first ODI against the Indian cricket team and won the match.
  • RT Ponting, ML Hayden, AC Gilchrist and DC Boon from the Australian cricket team have been seen to perform really well against the Indian players.  SR Waugh and B Lee have also been bowling stunningly taking the maximum number of wickets in the ODI matches against the Indian cricket team.
  • From the Indian cricket squad, SR Tedulkar and Muhammad Azhrudin have been the key batsmen playing marvelously against the Aussies in the ODIs. On the bowling side, Kapil Dev and AB Agarkar have been performing really well taking the maximum number of wickets in the ODIs played against the Australian players.
  • A total of 105 ODI matches have been played between these two cricket teams. Out of 105, the Aussies have won 61 matches while in the rest of the 36 ODIs, the Indian players were the victorious ones.
  • The highest ODI team score has been scored by Australia against the Indian cricket team on the grounds of Johannesburg in year 2003. 359 runs on the cost of only 2 wickets in 50 overs.
  • However, the highest ODI individual score has been made by the Indian batsman, Sachin Tedulkar (175) against the Australian team members on the fields of Hyderabad in November 2009.
  • The best ODI bowling figures in the ODIs between Australian and England cricket team is of M Kartick, one of the Indian players. He took six wickets against the Aussies in the ODI Played in 2007.
  • Most number of wickets has been taken by an Australian player, Bret Lee. (51) in the ODIs against the Men in Blue.
  • Coming towards the wicket keeping records, AC Gilchrist has the most number of dismissals record against the Indian cricket team.
  • The last ODI up till today played between the two teams was on March 24th 2011 at Ahmedabad where India defeated the Australian cricket team by five wickets.
