Golden Time of Cricket Teams: West Indies 1975-1984
by admin on December 9, 2011
in Facts and figures of Cricket World Cups, General Information about Cricket, West Indies
Gone are the days when West Indies aka Windies reigned the ODI cricket in its early days. Those were the days when an ODI match was of 60 overs, without any power plays and fielding restrictions. Holding a red ball, Men dressed in white played the first world cup in 1975 where West Indies under the captaincy of Clive Lloyd lofted the first World Cup trophy.
West Indies during 1975-1984 was one team that was always a hard nut to crack for all the cricketing nations. Windies were blessed with legendary players like Viv Richards, Andy Roberts, Clive Lloyd, Gordon Greenidge, Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Rohan Kanhai, Michael Holding, Collis King and Desmond Haynes. All these players who rose from the Caribbean have registered profuse golden memories of the glorious days they spent entertaining the spectators on the cricket grounds – the defeat of Aussies in the 1975 world cup final was not less than stupendous and this performance was repeated in 1979 when England lost to West Indies in a pulsating World Cup final match.
Although there was a major hit to West Indies in 1983 world cup final when they lost playing against India, But it is a reality that Windies enjoyed their supremacy as the best ODI team from 1975 to 1984.

India vs West Indies Series 2011: What a draw…

in Cricket news
It was quite a predictable one as everything was quite clear from the beginning of the fifth day of the 3rd test played at the Wankhede. Unlike any other draw which can be a real boring day for the fans of both countries but things revered. The final day of the match ended up with the scores level. It has happened second time in the history of test cricket. Only one run could have made a difference in the match but both Indians and West Indies players remained on their toes to save the match for their homelands.
The leveling of scores at a test match was first recorded in the first test between England and Zimbabwe played at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo during 1996-1997 cricket season where England required three runs off the final ball, but only 2 runs were scored resulting in a leveling of the scores.
Records in cricket are to be made and then to be broken. But leveling a score in test cricket is one of the rare things cricket fans have seen.
The first ODI between India and West Indies is scheduled on November 29, 2011. We hope for a great game ahead.
