The Aussies started playing test cricket in 1877 and made their debut against the English cricket team where as New Zealand commenced their test career in 1930. Despite making the debut in 1930 the New Zealand cricket team made their first encounter against the Australian cricket team in 1946.

  • Australian cricket squad are known as the Aussies where as the New Zealanders are known as the Kiwis.
  • WA Brown was the Australian cricket team’s captain when the two teams made their first encounter where as WA Hadlee captained the New Zealand cricket side.
  • The first test match between the two islanders was played at Wellington where the Aussies won easily against the Kiwis.
  • HW Gourlay and MF Pengelly umpired the first test match.
  • The key players for the Aussies were AR Border, AC Gilchrist, Glen McGrath, DR Martyn and KD Walters. Whereas for the kiwis JG Wright, MD Crowe, CL Cairns, AH Jones, NJ Astle and RJ Hadlee have been the eminent performers.
  • In total the two teams have battled 50 times on the test match field.
  • 26 matches have been won by the Australian cricket team and only 7 matches were won by the New Zealanders.

  • RJ Hadlee, the New Zealander bowler took 9 wickets in 1985, and he also happens to be the leading aggregate wicket taker with 130 wickets. The maximum number of wickets was also taken by him in a match (15 wickets). The records make it pretty evident that he was one of the key bowlers of the New Zealand bowling squad.
  • And it is a world record up till date that no one else has ever been able to achieve the three titles to his name. (Highest wickets in an innings, match and in aggregate against a side).
  • The last match played by the Australian cricket team against the Kiwis was in 2010 (March 27-31) at Hamilton.

The first ever ODI played between the Australian cricket team and the New Zealand cricket team was at Dunedin on March 30 1973. It was 35 overs match where Australia won by seven wickets.

  • The Australian cricket team is famously known as the Aussies. The Kiwis is the nick name for the New Zealand cricket players in the world of cricket.
  • IM Chappel was the captain of the Australian cricket team while the Aussies played their first ODI against the Kiwis. The kiwis were being captained by BE Congdon at that time.
  • EW Dempster and LHG Harmer were the umpires during the first ODI match played between these two cricket teams.
  • On the grounds of Carisbrooke, Dunedin, the Aussies won their first ODI Match played against the famous Kiwis.
  • RT Ponting, ME Waugh and DC Boon from the Australian cricket team have been seen to perform really well against the New Zealand players.  GD McGarth and Bret Lee have also been bowling marvelously taking the maximum number of wickets in the ODI matches against the New Zealand cricket team.
  • Famous New Zealand cricket players Stephen Flemming, JG Wright and MD Crowe are the eminent players of the New Zealand cricket team who have been batting spectacularly. On the bowling side, EJ Chatfield, DL Vettori and RJ Hadlee are the important players who have been performing pretty well against the Aussies.
  • Up till today, a total of 124 ODIs have been played between the Australian cricket team and the New Zealand cricket team. Out of these 124, 85 matches have been won by the Aussies and the rest 34 were in the favor of the great Kiwis.
  • The highest ODI total record has been made by the New Zealand cricket team against the Australian players which was a score of 350 in 49.3 overs at the cost of 9 wickets. This ODI was in year 2007 played on the grounds of Hamilton.
  • The individual highest score in the ODIs between the Australian cricket team and the New Zealand cricket team has been made by an Aussie player, ML Hayden. He scored 181 runs on 166 balls on 20 feb 2007 on the fields of Hamilton.
  • GD McGarth, the famous Australian player has the record of holding most number of wickets against the New Zealand cricket team where as SE Bond, one of the Kiwis has the best bowling figures against the Australian cricket team.
  • Coming towards the wicket keeping records, AC Gilchrist has the most number of dismissals (62) record against the New Zealand cricket team.
  • Up to date, the last ODI played between these two cricket teams was at Vidarbha cricket association stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur. It was the eight match of the tournament played on 25th February 2011.
