  • The two teams have played two matches against each other in ICC Cricket World Cups.  Both teams have won 1-1 match.
  • The two teams first met in 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup Group-B match in which South African cricket team bowled out Bangladesh on a meager total of 108 runs in 35.1 overs.  South African bowler Makhaya Ntini took 4/24 and Shaun Pollock manage 2 wickets by giving 8 runs. South Africa easily won that match by 10 wickets in only 12 overs.
  • Opposite happened in the next world cup match between two countries when they met in Super Eight round of 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup. Bangladesh scored 251/8 with Mohammad Ashraful contributing 87 runs.
  • In reply, South African batting line collapsed on 185 all out. Bangladeshi bowler Abdur Razzak took 3 while Syed Rasel and Shakib ul Hassan took 2 wickets apiece. Bangladesh cricket team won that match by 67 runs making their third upset in the tournament
  • In overall matches, South Africa has been always beating Bangladesh convincingly. Other than world cups, the two teams have played 12 matches; South African cricket team has won 11 while 1 match was abandoned due to rain.
  • Since Bangladesh’s qualification for ICC Cricket World Cup, the two teams have played in world cups of 2003 and 2007 but did not played in 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup.

In 2011 cricket world cup, South Africa vs Bangladesh match ended up in handing over one of the most humiliating defeats to Bangladesh team. South Africa batted first. They scored 284 at the loss of 8 wickets in the 50 overs they faced. At one end the South African bowling line up was good and on the other, Bangladesh squad might have felt the pressure of facing South Africa in a key match. Bangladesh batting line up collapsed like a house of cards. Bangladesh was all out for 78 runs. The victory margin for South Africa was 208 runs. Bangladesh has a good batting unit. This huge loss came as a surprise for all.
