Kumara SangakkaraVery few batsmen are blessed with the finesse and brilliant hard hitting skills like Sangakkara the current captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team possesses. His ruthless ground strokes and death touches makes him a prized scalp for any bowler in the world.

Born in 1977, in Matale, Sri Lanka, Kumara Sangakkara made his ODI debut against Pakistan cricket team back in 2000. Since then he has been a part of 282 ODIs where he has scored 8699 runs at a very good average of 36.86. He also has to his name 10 centuries and 59 fifties all which have been a treat to which by an unbiased spectator. He started off his career as a wicket keeper who could bat but now he is regarded as an exceptional top order left handed batsman who has been consistent in the ODI rankings and is one of the top wicket keepers in the world too. His love for strokes square of the wicket resulted in his best ever innings of 138* which eventually proved to be match winning for his country.

Sangakkara has represented his country in two world cups thus far and would like to make sure this time around with the tournament being held at home and he himself captaining the side, he has the fire power in his team to fight hard and win the second world cup for their country.

If this dream is to be realized, Kumara Sangakkara would need to make sure that his work with the gloves behind the wicket, with the bat and his thought process as the leader of the team need to be nsync and of the highest level so that Sri Lankan flag could again be raised high at the end of the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Kumara Sanggakarra now has 11988 runs in test and 12844 in Test Cricket. His averages show how lethal he is with the bat.
