  • Thilan Thusara Samaraweera is a right hand batsman of Sri Lankan cricket team. Although he plays in both ODI and test cricket formats but his credentials in test cricket have been more promising. The batting average of Samaraweera is around 50 in test cricket which is clear evidence of his brilliance in test cricket.
  • Thilan Samaraweera made his ODI debut on November 6, 1998 against India. In 53 one day international matches, Samaraweera has scored 868 runs with an average of 27.80 including only two centuries and 0 fifties. The highest score by Samaraweera has been 105 runs.
  • Thilan Samaraweera made his test debut on August 29, 2001 against India. In 81 test cricket matches, Samaraweera has scored 5462 runs with an excellent batting average of 48.76 including 30 fifties and 14 hundreds, thus making him an undoubted choice for test cricket squad of Sri Lanka.
  • The overall ODI average of Samaraweera is under 27 but in 13 match streak of 2010, he had a very prolific average of 49.33. Samaraweera also played in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup but the performance has not been very impressive as he has sparkled the most in test cricket.
  • In the recent performance, Samaraweera hasn’t been too great of a batsman for Sri Lankan team. His unimpressive performance in the previous world cup makes his position a little doubtful for 2015 ICC World Cup.

  • Samaraweera is one of the most important players in the current Srilankan cricket squad. His role as a batsman is likely to become more important in future when Kumara Sangakkara will retire.
