The 8th Cricket World Cup was played in 2003 in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya. Like the previous tournament, world cup cricket 2003 also had a super six stage. Australia, Sri lanka, India and Kenya qualified for the semifinals of cricket world cup 2003.

2nd Semifinal Cricket World Cup 2003:

  • The second semi-final of 2003 Cricket World Cup was played on 20th March, 2003. Indian cricket team faced Kenya in the semi final of 8th Cricket World Cup (2003)
  • India scored 270 runs. Sachin Tendulkar of Indian cricket team scored 83 runs and Saurav Ganguly scored 111.
  • In response to India’s 270 runs, Kenya was all out for 179 runs.
  • S Tikolo scored 56 runs.
  • Indian cricket team won the semi-final of  2003 Cricket World Cup by 91 runs.
  • Saurav Ganguly was declared Man of the Match. It was a day and night match.
  • The Final of 2003 Cricket World Cup was played between Indian and Australian cricket teams.

Final-Cricket World Cup 2003  

India and Australia faced each other in the final of Cricket World cup 2003.

  1. The final of 2003 Cricket World Cup was played on 23rd March, 2003.
  2. Australian cricket team scored 359/2 which was the highest total set by any team in this world cup.
  3. Ricky Ponting of Australian cricket team scored 140 runs. DR Martyn scored 88 runs and Adam Gilchrist scored 57. ML Hayden scored 37.
  4. Indian cricket team was all out for 234 runs. Virender Sehwag scored 84 runs and Rahul Dravid scored 47 runs. Glenn McGrath took 3 wickets.
  5. Ricky Ponting was declared Man of the Match. Sachin Tendulkar of Indian cricket team was declared Man of the series in the final match of 2003 Cricket World Cup.

This was the second consecutive world cup title for Australian cricket team. The sensible and staunch captaincy of Ricky Ponting helped Australia win another world cup trophy.
