Known for his deadly swing bowling and supreme batting skills under tough conditions, Richard Hadlee is undoubtedly one of the greatest cricketers to have come out of New Zealand cricket team. Bagging 158 wickets in a 115 ODIs at an excellent average of 21.56, he was definitely a bowler that the oppositions dreaded.

Better known as ‘Paddles’ on the cricket circuit, Richard Hadlee, was a well respected middle order batsman who was extremely effective against the lesser attacks in world cricket. In the 98 innings of the 115 ODIs that he batted in, Richard Hadlee scored 4 fifties at a reasonable average of 21.61. Sir Richard Hadlee was also the first bowler to take more than 400 wickets in test cricket. He took 431 wickets in 86 test matches with best figure of 15 wickets by giving 123 runs. 

Richard Hadlee has a very good world cup record to back up his all ready strong ODI. He took 22 wickets in the 13 world cup matches in which he represented New Zealand cricket team. The average with which amassed these wickets was even better at his normal ODI average only proving that he was a big match player who rose to the occasion when needed.  A hectic schedule forced him forced him into a state of depression which he overcame with the help of his family and friends.

Knighted in the 1990, for his exceptional services towards cricket and chosen as one of the top 50 cricketers of all time by Wisden. Sir Richard Hadlee currently spends his time commenting on the game as an expert and will most certainly be remembered as one of the most devastating ODI cricketers to have graced the Kiwi soil. He has been a cricket pundit and also a manager of New Zealand cricket board. He was considered as the 12th best cricket player of all time. After Hadlee, although New Zealand has been a good team but no such talent was found on their bowling side. Let’s see how the team performs in 2015 ICC Championship
