England vs Sri Lanka

The much awaited Npower series destined to regain some pride after wasting their chances of getting hold of the world cup brought the two rivals namely England and Sri Lankan cricket team face to face at Cardiff where they played their first test. England securing a win by a margin of an innings wasn’t much of a surprise as Sri Lanka gave one of their worst performances ever by scoring just 82 runs in their second innings.

The second test was a tough combat, with Sri Lanka aiming to save their last remnants of prestige. Both teams put on a nice display of all round performance ending the match in a draw. Famous SriLankan cricket player Dilshan and Prera played shots all over the ground and secured their centuries. Welgedra and Finn were equally good in showing the batsmen their way to pavilion.

Third test contrary to the wishes of both teams ended up in a draw, thanks to the never stopping rain. Almost 369 overs in total were washed away by the raining cats and dogs. English cricket team eyeing a 2-0 lead, Sri Lanka daydreaming of drawing the series was more hurt with the way the match ended. No doubt it was Kumar Sangakkara who saved the match for Sri Lanka with his unbeaten century. What’s Interesting to know is that it was Sangakara’s first test century in England .Persuaded to step into Dilshan’s shoes and take his place as a captain, he took full responsibility, looked positive and led his team to a descent draw.

Chris Tremlett of English cricket team and Prassana Jayawardane of Sri Lankan cricket team were named men of the series. Other performances worth mentioning are that of A.Cook the leading run scorer and yet again Chris Tremlett leading wicket taker. Looking forward to what the ODI series and T20 match have in store for us.
