Cricket Team Records: South Africa vs Australia (Test Match Records)

The South African cricket team was granted test status in 1889 and they became one of the very few teams to make their debut in the same year as well. They played their first match in 1889(March) against the English cricket side in England. Whereas the Aussies commenced their test career in 1877 and made their debut against English side.

• The South African cricketers are often referred to as the Southees or the Proteas.
• The Australian 11 have a single nick name i.e. the Aussies.
• JS Darling captained the Aussies against the South African cricket team and on the other hand the Southees availed HM Tarberer’s captaining services.
• The two teams met each other for the first time in Johannesburg at the Old Wanderers stadium.
• F Hearne and A Soames were the umpires for the test cricket game.
• For the Aussies the top cricket  players have been Ricky Ponting, RN Harvey, ML Hayden, AC Gilchrist, SR Waugh, MR Waugh, VT Trumper, DG Bradman, SK Warne, GD Mcgrath, Brett Lee and CV Grimmet.
• For the the South Africans the eminent batsmen and bowlers have been HJ Tayfield, AA Donald, M Ntini, MJ Procter,  JH Kallis, HH Gibbs, Gary Kirsten, EJ Barlow and WJ Cronje.
• In all the two teams have played 83 test games and out of the 83 the Aussies have won 47 and the South African cricket team has won 18 games. 18 matches were drawn.
• Therefore the winning ratios are as Australia: 56.62% and South Africa: 21.68 %( excluding the draw matches).
• The highest totals in an innings are quite close. Australian cricket team has scored 652/7(declared) in an innings where as the South African squad has scored 651.
• Top scorer in an innings for South Africa was DG Bradman with his 299 (not out) and for the Australians the top scorer was SR Pollock with 274 runs.
• RT Ponting has the highest aggregate score against the Southees I.e. 2030 runs.
• With the most number of wickets in aggregate SK Warne tops the list (130). The highest numbers of wickets in an innings was taken by MG Johnson i.e. 8. And the maximum wickets in a match were yet again taken by an Australian bowler CV Grimmett (14).
• Best wicket keeper among the  two sides was MR Boucher since he caused 61 dismissals,
• The last match played between the two teams was at Cape Town which was the 3^rd match of the series. It lasted from March 19-22 (2009).

 Cricket Team Records: South Africa vs Australia (ODI-One Day International Matches Records)

Australia faced the South African cricket team for the first time in the One Day Internationals in the year 1992 on 26^th February on the grounds Sydney.

• KC Wessels was the caption of the South African cricket team in the first ODI played against the Aussies where as the Aussies were being captained by popular Australian cricket player Allan R Border in that match.
• BL Aldrige and SA Bucknor were the umpires of the first ODI match played between the Australian cricket team and the South African cricket team.
• On the grounds of Sydney in Australia, these two cricket teams encountered each other for the first time in an ODI match.
• From the Aussies, famous cricket players Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh have been performing splendidly on the batting side making highest number of runs against the South African cricket team up to date. On the bowling side, SK Warne and GD McGarth have taken the most number of wickets.
• JN Rhodes and JH Kallis, the South African cricket team batsmen have performed effectively through out against the Aussies in the ODIs. From the bowling side Shaun Pollock and AA Donald have been seen to bowl really well.
• South African won the first ODI played against the Aussies in 1992 by nine wickets. It was an astonishing victory.
• Up till today, 77 ODI matches have been played between the Australian cricket team and the England cricket team. 39 ODIs have been won by the Aussies and 35 by the South African cricket team. So far, only three ODIs have been tied between the two teams.
• The best and the highest ODI team score has been scored by the strong South African players against the Aussies on the grounds of Johannesburg in year 2006. 438 runs on the cost of 9 wickets in 49.5 overs.
• The highest individual ODI score has been made by the South African batsman, HH Gibbs (175) against the Australian team members on the fields of Johannesburg on 12^th march 2006.
• The best ODI bowling figures in the ODIs between Australian and South African cricket team is of M Ntini , one of the south African players. He took six wickets against the Australian players in the ODI Played in 2006.
• Most number of wickets has also been taken by an Australian player, SK Warne (6o).
• Coming towards the wicket keeping records, AC Gilchrist has the most number of dismissals record against the South Africans.
• The last ODI played between the two teams was on April 17^th 2009 at Johannesburg where Australia won by 47 runs.

Cricket Team Records: South Africa vs Australia (T20-Twenty Twenty Matches Records)

On 9^th Jan 2006, South African cricket team encountered the Australian cricket team for the first time in the ICC T20 world cup at Brisbane.

• The South African cricket team also famously known as the Protease was being captained by famous South African player Graeme Smith in the first T20 match against the Aussies. Ricky Ponting was the captaining the Aussies at that time.
• BNJ Oxenford and RL Perry were the umpires of the first T20 match played between the South African cricket team and the Australian cricket team.
• On the Brisbane cricket grounds, South African cricket players played against the Australian team their first T20 match.
• Australian team won its first T20 match against South African cricket team by 95 runs. Damien Martyn was the the man of the match.
• A total of six T20 matches have been played between the two teams up till today.
• JP Duminy, GC Smith and HH Gibbs have been eminent players in the t20 matches of the South African cricket team. On the bowling side, RJ Petersen and DW Steyn showed splendid performance and took several important wickets.
• DA Warner, DJ Hussey and MEK Hussey have been batting very well from the Australian team. Where as on the bowling side, average performance has been observed from all the famous bowlers of the Australian team including NW Bracken, JR Hopes and DJ Hussey.
• Equal numbers of matches have been won by both the cricket teams so far i.e three.
• Score of 209 at the cost of three wickets has been the highest T20 score up to date made by the Australian team against the South African cricket team on the fields of Brisbane on 9^th Jan 2006.
• The highest individual score so far has been made by DR Marytn, the Australian cricket player against the Protease.
• NW Bracken and JR Hopes took the most number of wickets i.e 7 in T20 matches against the South African cricket team where as the best bowling figures are of AJ Hail, the south African player.
• Coming to the wicket keeping figures, the Australian cricket team member, BJ Haddin has a record of maximum number of dismissals in the t20 internationals.

The last up to date T20 match played between Australian and South African cricket team was at Centurion on 29^th March 2009 where South Africa won by 17 runs
